New Speed Zone Change

The new speed zone spans from the Lance Corporal Andrew Whitacre Memorial Bridge, which spans over the Salamonie River just south of the Jay County High School, to the Portland City Limits on State Road 67. The permanent speed zone has been lowered to 50 MPH and the School Zone has been lowered to 35 MPH when flashing.

Several months ago, Administrators from The Jay Schools, Jay County Sheriff's Office, and the Portland Police Department met with INDOT officials to discuss traffic concerns around the area of the High School and this change was the result of that meeting.

Law Enforcement will be conducting educational enforcement in the area to ensure a safe transition to the new speed zone.
